Product Care & Information
Each shoe that AZZUL produces is exquisitely handmade, one piece at a time allowing for slight variations. We use a variety of natural and pit dyed hides as well as locally sourced wood for our clog heels. We have the most attentive artisans who are “Masters” of their respective crafts who make each handmade product of the highest quality.
Fit & Sizing
Our shoes are constructed using European sized lasts. We have specific fit notes for every product on our website. Please view for each style of shoe you select as different styles fit differently. If you have any questions on sizing please feel free to text us at 917-981-8746 – we’re happy to help.
Our sneakers style shoes are produced in whole sizes and may start out a bit snug but are designed to stretch out for a custom fit. Our shoes will mold to the width of your foot with every wear. The amount of breaking in varies by upper material, as well as style.
Our embroidered shoes have not been treated with any type of dirt repellant. Since we use naturally dyed cotton canvas and thread, it is possible to spray a Scotchguard ™ type of product on our embroidered shoes – carefully following the manufacturers guidelines.
For cleaning of our leather shoes, we recommend using a specialty leather cleaner or saddle soap to remove dirt and stains. Avoid products that contain detergents or acids. The suede used for our shoes is untreated and may be treated with a waterproofing spray to protect from stains and water.
Caring for your new clogs and clog boots follows the same protocol as the leather and suede care for the upper. Our uppers will soften, stretch and mold to your feet. Our bases are made of hand-carved Alder wood, a natural hardwood from Portugal. If the rubber soles wear down over time, particularly around the toe and heel from enjoyment. Please make sure to resole your clogs with a light, bouncy rubber before the wood bottom is exposed. A local cobbler can do this for you.
We at AZZUL have chosen to work with Zardozi Creations in India having them assist us in re-imagining the Portuguese art, culture and spirit. We thoughtfully chose this particular artistic community not only for their talent but it is a fair trade facility that pays its artisans a fair wage above industry standards, works with fair trade vendors for raw material sourcing and supports the education of the children of its artisans.
Our commitment to selecting vendors recognized for their environmentally sound practices was a key focal point for our team. Our partners accolades include accreditations from the ICEC in Environmental Quality, a Gold Rating by the LWG (Leather Wear Group) and establishing a Code of Ethics for reducing environmental impact in leather production.
